I always appreciate your comments and your readership but I am going to make you aware of the following:
1. Over 25% of our readership is female and we have increased that from single digits less than 2 years ago.
2. Two of our Senior Editors are also female.
3. Name another Hi-Fi magazine that promoted the “Women in Vinyl” podcast show aside from eCoustics? Oh right. There wasn’t one.
4. Gift Guides are seasonal and we recently did one for new married couples. We will also have a Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Graduation, and Outdoor Buying Guides.
We will continue to support and focus on women-owned companies in the audio/home theater categories because they offer incredible products and are almost always very unique stories.

Ian, I do appreciate the efforts, just please try harder. (HT to Mrs. White). Audio/hi-fi is “an entrenched” market, and yes, those are hard to change. For example, I spent most of my professional life as an educational administration prof (1991-2021, musician before that). Ed Adm is historically a white guy profession (and yes, you had best be Protestant and married to a dutiful woman). Diversifying that field was crushing at times, but now things are remarkably better. You will have to work even HARDER than the average reviewing shop, right now, to “build out” your audience/market. But over time, the average shop is gonna die or is dying right now because the market share is rapidly shrinking for that narrowband, and you see this. Audio and video are for every one. It is NOT focused on either men or women but as is often the case, one group enjoys something more than the other. That is normal.
I have attended audio shows for many years and there are more women there than than there are handicapable folks such as I but that does not mean audio should focus on people (men and women) that are physically handicapped.
I own several turntables of which only 1 is automatic. I have to get up, get my Lofstrand crutches on and walk to the ‘table and lift the tonearm up, return it and turn off the ‘table to flip the record and start over. A pain in the butt, huh? I happen to like the Beatles and so I own three Pro-Ject ‘tables that are Beatles inspired. I also just spent a LOT (to me) on a Pro-Ject X2 that is also fully manual. Cuz it’s cool looking. Not made for the handicapable but I have a fully automatic turntable for when I think I really need it. I digress…
Because we all have two eyes and two ears. Other than deaf folks, which I have worked with for years, we can all hear sound. I knew and worked with a deaf woman who was one of, if not the first, person to get Cochlear Implants. She had to “learn” to hear again but she did so and was thrilled to once again hear music and the world around her.
Being blind is another impediment to the enjoyment of film at home or in a theatre (Canadian spelling ALERT!). For decades I was more than classified as “legally blind” but glasses could correct that but if they were removed from my face I was literally lost. -14 lost. 20/200 used to be considered “legally blind”. I was that at 6 or 7 years of age.
I still listened to music and I still went to the movies and no matter where I went I always had a spare pair (or two!) of glasses, LOL! Once eye surgery caught up to my level of blindness (it took decades!) I had it done. I met a young woman at my local Narnes & Boble that had very THICK glasses and a Seeing Eye Dog. Another reason it is almost always as my mother taught me about personal problems: “You have no real room to complain but you can certainly bitch about it, dear!”
The young woman and I spoke for awhile and she was thrilled to hear surgery had gotten to the point it gave me 20/20 and 20/18 uncorrected. I assured her it was my hope that it would one day do so for her.
The point of this missive is that we, men and women, have far more in common than we do in, if you will, uncommon. Celebrate that (another thing my mom taught me!) and revel in the soundtrack of OUR lives. I have met several of the folks here at ecoustics and to a man (the young lady was busy with the show as I t hink she was instrumental in its production) they were are just
P E O P L E.
Good people. These days the only people that seem to truly exclude folks are the people that exclude themselves. Either that or assholes. But it is mostly the former in the real world. I can not swim but I did watch our son swim in high school meets. I can not surf but I have watched and admired others do so. I can not sing so I never do that because it would be horridly annoying to those around me. Even me.
Enough ramblin’. Ecoustics is my choice for Audio and Video reviews that are focused on the REAL WORLD all of us live in. Even retired, handicapable season citizens that still try to ride their motorycle and occasionally fall down in front of the world.
In all ways and for always, be happy and be well. Yeah. My mom taught me that too. As always, I can ramble but I do not proof read all that well. Sorry about any typos, etc.
